Hi! I’m Jacqueline.

I’m a food lover, a budgeter, and a nutrition enthusiast.

I’m not a professional chef and I’m not a nutritionist. In my day job, I’m a strategic planner. Research is my strength. I love to try new things and share my experiences.

On this website, I share healthy and cheap recipes I eat in my everyday life. The favorite meals my family and I love!

The words “healthy” and “cheap” seem like they’re opposites.

My goal is to show you that they’re not. You can eat food that’s good for your body and mind, and not break the budget.

And it’s not going to be rice and beans or ramen noodles…

About Me

I wasn’t always passionate about healthy and cheap eats.

In fact, around 10 years ago, I didn’t even know how to cook!

But then 2 things happened.

1) I met my husband.

He opened my eyes as to how much money I was spending on food.

I realized how expensive takeout can be over time.

I also realized groceries can cost even more than take out if I’m not careful.

On a side note, saving money became an obsession of mine as you can see from my other website Mom Money Map.

2) I got gestational diabetes when I was pregnant.

I had to attend a nutritional workshop. I learned how to eat well for myself and my baby.

While it was initially not fun to be on a diet while pregnant, I realized this was one of the best things to ever happen to me.

When you get gestational diabetes, you as the mother are not only more prone to getting diabetes in the future, your child is as well.

I needed to change my ways for my family.

Due to these 2 life changes, I learned how to cook, experimented with different recipes, and discovered new foods.

I knew I wanted to spend less on healthy food, but I didn’t want to sacrifice on taste.

My goal became trying to cook food at home that tastes as good as what you would get from a restaurant.

Through trial and error, I realized it’s possible to cook nutritious and delicious food on a budget.

More importantly, it’s possible for all the meals to be child and husband approved as well! There are some picky pallets in my household!

About Healthy Cheap Recipes

One thing that makes Healthy Cheap Recipes different from other food websites is that we have a list of substitutions, add-ons and cooking modification suggestions if you don’t have the exact ingredients or tools listed.

We don’t want you to go out and purchase additional ingredients for one time use or if you don’t anticipate on repeating this recipe.

We encourage you to use what you have so there’s less waste and you’re saving more money!
